2004 (early) Land Rover Discovery II HSE in Giverny Green. Pretty sure we’d buy a Freelander in this color. Excited for this one 💚
This low mileage example takes us out of our Discovery 1 routine to further embrace a different engine platform similar to the P38. This example was owned in a prior life by a Rover tech who did a lot of preventive work to keep this beauty on the road for many years to come.
On a previous post we mentioned the acceleration of values among the top percent of Disco 1’s and had many inquires about D2’s and our opinion on this model Land Rover. Now surpassing the 20 year mark, the D2 is a great platform but more delicate. 🌸 Power plants on this era (late ‘99 to ‘04) require more care and attention for the most part. Staying ahead of common weaknesses is key.
Clean unmolested D2’s especially the last model 2004 have already seen value increases and continue to rise. For us, the D2 driving experience is different. The entire feel of the drive position, mystique of the increased power, and overall road presents gives all the feels.
Top examples of this era will continue to rise as the funnel gets smaller & smaller 🎙️
Our 2026 market assessment includes being very bullish on the Discovery model. We tried to find the cleanest Disco 1’s in 2025 and really only found 3 we would consider great. Most are worn out or trashed by this point.
What’s great is the D1 is basically a Defender 90 with a different body and a few more electric options. While Defenders are out of reach now for many, the Discovery is still priced in a lower zone for what it offers.
No we aren’t talking about the Discovery 2. Those still require more attention for care.
Clean, solid Discovery 1’s will move higher this year only because the funnel is getting very narrow at this point. Find one and hold. The 90’s nostalgia of this boxy vehicle will be highly desirable in the coming years as more modern cars just don’t do it for those desiring character. 🖋️

Did you know Range Rover had a special model marketed to Hunters? 🦅🦆🐕
In the 1991 model year Land Rover introduced the Range Rover Hunter Edition. The Hunter was introduced as a lower cost model for those who appreciated the Range Rovers off road ability but did not want to pay the rapidly escalating price of the fully equipped U.S. models.
Despite having the same name (and tailgate sticker) the 1991 Hunter was different from the 1989 Hunter. The 405 Hunter models sold in 1991 had LESS equipment than the standard 1991 models, while the 120 Hunter models sold in 1989 had MORE equipment.
The exterior of the Hunter was finished in one of four solid colors (Alpine White, Eastnor Green, Arran Beige, and Portofino Red) metallic and metallic paints were not available on the Hunter.
The 1991 Hunter did not have ABS anti lock brakes or sway bars like all the other 1991 models but it still had the vented front rotors introduced in 1990. Due to the lack of the sway bars, ABS brakes, power seats (and on most Hunters) a sunroof, they weighed over 100 lbs less than other 1991 Range Rovers.
Inside the Hunter had Brogue Brown cloth seats without power adjustment (the 1991 Hunter is the only Range Rover ever imported to the U.S. by RRNA/LRNA without power seats). All came with a dog guard between the back seat and the load area. The Hunter did not have a hard loadspace cover like all other NAS Range Rovers, but had a less expensive luggage net.
